  4.         Most of my hypertext systems (HyGlos, Hyplus, Hynet, HyperLAN)
  5.         include a thesaurus/glossary system with the following capabilities:

  7.                 Highlight any word ..... system displays a definition
  8.                 Type in any word ....... system displays a definition
  9.                 Hyperjumps to glossary . system displays word definition
  10.                 Word definitions ....... each can contain secondary hyperlinks
  11.  
  12.         Using this capability, for example, a user could:

  14.                 1.  Type in the word ACC and system displays ACCELERATE
  15.                 2.  System lists phrases containing the word ACCELERATE
  16.                 3.  Upon selecting ACCELERATED DEPRECIATION system:
  17.                         a.  Defines the term
  18.                         b.  Shows preferred usage of the term
  19.                         c.  Shows synonyms for the term
  20.                         d.  Shows the broader and narrower terms
  21.                         e.  Lists key hypertext jumps to the idea in text

  28.         Typically, beginning users of a hypertext system use the arrow keys
  29.         with the contained classification system to find desired material.
  30.  
  31.         However, if the hypertext system contains the above described
  32.         thesaurus/glossary capabilities which provide a language map to
  33.         all ideas, advanced users tend to type in the nearest word they know
  34.         then follow the vocabulary scheme to the desired material.

  36.         As an example, one of my commercial CD-ROM hypertext systems contains
  37.         a 6,000 word glossary system (and 40,000 lines of supporting text).

  39.         Unfortunately, the HyperBBS does not now contain a glossary system
  40.         because its construction generally can only be done by the SYSOP.

  42.         However, I hope to add glossary capabilities to HyperBBS using a
  43.         routine that notes in a special file whenever a desired word in the
  44.         glossary in NOT found.  If the SYSOP is conscientious, eventually
  45.         most of the desired words will be supported by a glossary system.
